OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF IKHAYALETHEMBA
VILLAGE, NOMZAMO - June / July 2010
2010! Looking back at previous Newsletters we can hardly believe the wonderful developments
that have come to be a reality at Ikhayalethemba Village. True to its name – Home of Hope, we are
still giving hope to our 32 resident children.
We have been truly blessed and it is all thanks to you, our wonderful donors and funders. You have
not only blessed us with your gifts but many of you have been very hands-on in helping us to get our
projects going.
NEW BAKERY / TRAINING CENTRE
This development has come to fruition due to the joint co-operative effort of many organisations,
both local and abroad, namely: The Rotary Club of Seaford, U.K., the Rotary Clubs of Gordon’s Bay
and Strand, R.S.A., the Rotary Club of Lincoln, Canada and the Rotary Club of Hampton, Australia.
Our very sincere and heartfelt thanks go to each and every one of the abovementioned funders
for their contribution to our project and most especially to Tony Osbourne of the Rotary Club of
Seaford, U.K., who has played a pivotal role in making this centre a reality.
The foundations for the building of The Bakery/Training Centre are now in place and we are
looking towards August for the completion thereof. It will be constructed using converted
containers which will be insulated and roofed.
OUR CHILDREN
Our children are flourishing under the enthusiasm
shown by the volunteers from Global Vision
International who are doing an amazing job of
constant motivation and stimulation with them on
a daily basis throughout the year. Their self
images and confidence have greatly improved and
we find them to be more disciplined and very
happy with the extra attention they are getting.
Our sincere thanks go to Shayle Havemann and her wonderful team of volunteers for their
dedicated work.
RECREATIONAL AREA
This dream has now been realised and was made possible by
two funders namely The Hope Foundation from Johannesburg,
R.S.A. and Anton and Rita Schaars from the Netherlands.
Anton and Rita visited our Sanctuary in March 2010 and in
celebration of their wedding anniversary, kindly donated
R10 000 towards the building of the log structure which has
been named “Ikhayalovuyo” which means “House of Happiness”. We look forward to many happy times in the future.
THREE NEW HOUSES
The contractors
have started digging the foundations for the
3 new houses and we expect them to be ready
by the end of August 2010. What an exciting
project! Containers are being converted in an
innovative and practical way. Doing this has
cut our costs extensively and left us with a
very pleasing end-result as can be seen from
the floor/site plan. These new houses will
enable us to accommodate a further ± 24
children. The building of these additional
houses has been funded by the Nedbank
Foundation and the furnishing thereof by the
Rotary Club of Doetinchem, Netherlands.
GRATITUDE
As you will have read, this has been a letter filled with our gratitude to all those who have been
such loyal friends to us. However, there is one special word of thanks that must be added and that
is Wilhelm and Jean Louw and their team at 2Ad Space Architects, Somerset West. They have
been invaluable and incredibly generous in assisting us with creating, conceptualising and
overseeing the building operations at our village – we are so grateful to you.
