OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF IKHAYALETHEMBA
VILLAGE, NOMZAMO - December 2011
“Christmas again! But we’ve just had Christmas!” – seems to be the exasperated response of most
people when the subject of the festive season arises.
This year has been filled with many challenges such as staff issues, property development and ongoing
maintenance and financial governance. The greatest of these being financial governance.
As Christians we have learnt, time and time again that a “therefore” is always followed by a“wherefore” and once again we placed our faith in our ever-present and wonderful Almighty God,
Jehovah Jireh, our provider and He heard our prayers providing wisdom and resources as we needed
them.
All thanks to the management team for their combined effort throughout the past year in
understanding the challenges and always going the extra mile in often, very difficult circumstances.
These circumstances have, in most cases, turned out to be blessings in disguise from which we learnt
much.
A NEW DAYCARE CENTRE AT IKHAYALETHEMBA VILLAGE
The Board of Trustees have agreed to the establishment of a Daycare Centre at the Village. The
Centre will care for 40 children of pre-school going age between the hours of 07h30 and 17h00 on
weekdays.
The Centre will operate from the existing House nos. 1 and 2, which will be renovated and re-designed
internally to cater for the childrens’ needs. The children occupying these houses will be relocated to
the new container-houses. The Centre is well positioned and suited and equipped for this purpose as
it:
- Has a safe entrance (cul de sac) for the children;
- Is a safe and secure venue as it is within the security fence of the village;
- Has an existing sand pit and jungle gym;
- Will be staffed by a combination of volunteers from Global Vision International and our own
Caregivers.
The Centre is being established for the following reasons:
- to generate much needed funds to contribute towards the sustainability of the overall
project.
- to develop a closer relationship between the community at large and the project.
- to create a greater awareness of the problems of child and woman abuse in the community.
- to provide a much needed Daycare Centre for mothers in the community.
SPECIAL NEEDS CENTRE
Caring for children with physical or mental disabilities is a very demanding occupation where normal
simple everyday procedures such as going to the toilet or bathing can become major exercises.
Such has been the experience of the Caregivers at our village and as a result of discussions held with
the Team Leaders of GVI and our management team, we have decided to convert House no. 4 into a
Special Needs Centre in the New Year.
The Centre will provide special equipment for bathing i.e. overhead hoist with chair to lower into the
bath, wheelchair friendly toilets and large movable area for physiotherapy and walking exercises.
This will be a great benefit to the daily wellbeing of children such as Edward and Ruben who are
unable to function unassisted and our other children who are physically and mentally handicapped.
DECEMBER - A SPECIAL MONTH
December is certainly a very exciting month for all of our children with so many events planned for
their enjoyment. Thank you to everyone who will be participating in these events and making this such
a wonderful time for them all.
Finally, on behalf of our Board of Trustees, Mama Lumka, Chris, the staff and of course all of our
children – we extend our very sincere thanks to all of our wonderful supporters for helping us in so
many ways; we could not have kept going without you.
We also wish you a very blessed Christmas and New Year filled with many blessings.
