OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF IKHAYALETHEMBA VILLAGE, NOMZAMO - November / December 2009

We are rapidly approaching the end of 2009 and what a year it has been! We have been so very blessed throughout this year by many people and we would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you. Without your invaluable support and assistance, we would not be able to care for our children.

BAKERY PROJECT
bakeryWith the help of Clover Mama Afrika who supplied us with a mini-bakery, our Bakery Project has now been up and running successfully for 4 months. Bread, biscuits and various other baked goods are produced every day. The bulk of the bread is used at Ikhayalethemba Village and any excess, together with other baked goods are sold to the
local community. The money generated by these sales is then used to re-stock the raw ingredients.

By the time we have raised sufficient funds for the building of our full-scale bakery, all the teething problems will have been ironed out and our bakers will be fully proficient. Thank you Clover Mama Afrika for once again saving the day!

Clover have also been involved in our Sewing Project – they have given us a sewing machine and overlocker, and they have supplied us with materials, cottons etc. Nothing has been too much trouble for these wonderful folk!

LITERARY PROJECT
literacy project Nov 09The Literacy classes are continuing and are being held in the container classroom that was purchased by The Mama Lumka Charity Inc., in Australia. The Global Vision International volunteers also use this classroom for some of their lessons. This is one literary 2classroom that is worth its weight in gold!

Our children are truly benefitting from the time spent with the GVI folk – they’re more spontaneous, laugh a lot more and just generally have a whole new lease on life. The stimulation has relieved any boredom and at the same time, they are learning all about the life that goes on around them. Thank you to the GVI volunteers – you guys are the best!

SEWING CLASSES
SEWING CLASSIn February 2010, our sewing classes will have been running for 2 years. JoJo, our Skills Trainer has worked tirelessly with the local ladies (and every now and again a
gent), teaching them the basic sewing skills. We hope that these courses have empowered some of the locals to make a living from what they have learnt here. We have received generous donations of material from various people and we thank them for that.

OUR CHILDREN
JUNGLE GYMThe children’s Jungle Gym has been upgraded and an additional “tyre frame” was built from funds generously donated by the Rotary Club of Burgess Hill & District in the UK. As can be seen from these happy faces, much fun is had outside.

The sand under the jungle gym has been replaced and the frame has been stablised and strengthened to ensure many more days of safe playing.

xmas playThese are some of thexmas play
happy faces who took part
in the Christmas Play at the
end of last year. The play
was a great success and the
evening ended with a braai
at the village and presents
for all the children. Much
fun was had by all!
